Program LEVI (independent research organization) Standards, Credentialing & Community

Learning Engineering Virtual Institute (LEVI)

Funds multi-year cohorts building AI-driven, research-backed tools to improve outcomes in math (LEVI Math) and early literacy (LEVI Literacy), with rapid experimentation and rigorous evaluation. Not affiliated with the earlier iNACOL/Aurora convening sometimes also called LEVI.

LENS @ JHU — Learning Engineering for Next-Generation Systems

LENS is an applied specialization that treats human capability development as a system-level engineering challenge in complex operational environments, where human performance and system performance are inseparable. Grounded in the learning sciences and human systems integration, LENS prepares practitioners to frame capability challenges in context, design and implement learning solutions centered on the people who operate within these systems, and produce decision-grade evidence that links learning outcomes to operational impact — across the full system lifecycle and in domains including healthcare, defense, and education.

Concentration within the JHU MEd in Learning Design & Technology. Unique JHU ecosystem: APL + School of Medicine + IEEE/ICICLE partnership. Capstone produces evidence dashboard, reproducible report, and governance/ethics plan.

Naturalistic Decision Making Association

Research community studying how people make decisions in real-world, time-pressured, high-stakes environments. NDM methods (critical decision method, cognitive task analysis) are core techniques learning engineers use to elicit expert knowledge in complex domains.
